With more than 23 years of experience in leadership, human resources, and organizational development, Tim Schumer works alongside business owners and leadership teams to bring clarity, structure, and accountability to the people side of business. His work focuses on strengthening leaders, aligning teams, and building systems that allow organizations to grow without the internal friction that slows progress.

Tim’s journey into human capital leadership began in March of 2001 when he joined the United States Army searching for direction and purpose. During his time in the military, he developed critical leadership skills, technical expertise, and the discipline required to lead teams under pressure. The experience shaped the way he approaches leadership today—direct, structured, and focused on outcomes

After being medically discharged in 2007, Tim transitioned into the civilian workforce and discovered the human resources profession at a career fair for veterans re-entering the workforce. Given his military background in training, leadership, and team management, HR felt like a natural extension of his strengths.

He began his civilian career in November of 2007 as a payroll coordinator and quickly immersed himself in the broader world of human resources.

For six years, Tim worked full-time while attending night classes four days per week, determined to deepen his knowledge and expand his leadership capabilities. In 2013 he earned his undergraduate degree in Business Management from McKendree University, followed by a Master’s Degree in Human Resources Development from Webster University in 2014.

Throughout his corporate career, Tim held a wide range of roles across the HR spectrum, including payroll administration, benefits management, HR operations, company acquisition onboarding, and global HR leadership. He also designed and delivered management training programs, facilitated leadership development initiatives, and led team-building retreats focused on strengthening trust, communication, and accountability across organizations.

These experiences eventually led Tim to recognize a common pattern across many companies: businesses grow faster than their leadership infrastructure.

Managers are promoted without leadership training. HR departments become reactive rather than strategic. Systems fail to support the scale of the organization.

In 2023, Tim decided to take his experience to the next level by launching Next Level Human Capital, a consulting firm dedicated to helping businesses strengthen the three core pillars that drive organizational success: Intelligence, Development, and Systems.

Through Intelligence, Tim helps leaders gain clarity around the human dynamics inside their organization. This includes identifying leadership blind spots, diagnosing culture and communication issues, assessing team alignment, and uncovering the root causes behind performance challenges.

Through Development, Tim equips managers and executives with the leadership tools they were rarely taught when they were promoted. His leadership training programs help managers learn how to communicate clearly, lead with confidence, navigate difficult conversations, and hold teams accountable without damaging trust.

Through Systems, Tim helps organizations build the HR infrastructure required to support long-term growth. This includes performance management frameworks, leadership accountability systems, HR processes, compliance structures, and technology integration that creates consistency across the business.

Rather than offering generic HR advice, Tim operates as a strategic partner to leadership teams. His work often resembles that of a fractional Chief Human Resources Officer, helping organizations build the leadership structure, communication frameworks, and operational systems needed to support sustainable growth.

He is also the creator of the SORRO leadership communication framework—Statement, Observation, Result, Request, Outcome—a practical model used to help managers navigate difficult conversations with professionalism, clarity, and confidence.
